Well here goes my story of how I ended up with a red 89 quest.

My mom's first car was a 1983 Dodge Challenger Technica. She got it brand new and drove it many miles before giving it to my older brother who sadly abused it a little. I do not have pictures of the challenger before it was fixed up...but i decided i wanted it to be my first car as well. Here is the after pictures.

Well as most of you can imagine...it runs like CRAP with the mikuni carb on there...it never has ran right after we got it rebuilt and truthfully...for being my first car i abused it way too much.

So I decided to get more power out of this seemingly crappy engine. Mind you it didnt rev past 3k rpm but i knew nothing of cars back then and didnt realize the second butterfly in the carb probably wasnt opening right.

So I knew a kid in town who had a GST eclipse all painted with big white stripes down in. I thought wow a race car (LOL). Found out that turbo's seem to make a lot of power so of course i found out what engine i had...and searched ALL over for turbo's.

I got in touch with a guy from Wisconsin and long story short...he probably was going to rip me off and take my car (GLAD i didnt do that).

Somehow i wondered to www.g54b.com and found out some pretty cool guys there and learned quite a bit about what i was actually dealing with. Talked to my dad about how a car came with the engine but turbocharged so we set out to buy one for the engine alone.

I was looking a lot on different sites....and suddenly my dad surprises me with news of him purchasing one in Illinois. WHAT...that piece of crap?? It had one small picture of the car on ebay...couldnt tell ANYTHING from it. Oh well all i need is the engine right?

We drive up there at the worst time of the year...snowing most of the time. Finally we picked up the car and started back. I wanted to drive it so badly just to see what kind of power a turbo added. On the way home I thought it was strange...we have 5 people who were interested if we were selling it!!

It was leaking coolant...body looked terrible....inside looked great. Engine bay had oxidation everywhere but it ran! Wow did it run...to me at least. I LOVED how it felt. Obviously my dad did too...he left this up our driveway...my mom wanted to sell it.

So guess what I did first? Take it for a drive with my girlfriend and BAM...blew a coolant hose...overheated...the works.

Wow I was so stupid...and this was AFTER reading all the (INSPECT EVERYTHING FIRST) stuff i read from SQC and people.

Picture of me broke down Sad

Either way...the motor is all we wanted and we planned on doing a rebuild. So OUT SHE GOES!

Radiator looks decent...

Stoopid my fat dog...isnt she great.

So i decided to lighten the stock flywheel to 21ish pounds according to what people say...

Got a new $800 cylinder head from Randy...now that i look back at it i would probably have went with a cheap rebuilt and got more performance...oh well

Also Items that i acquired but dont have pictures of is..wiesco forged 8:1 pistons. Clevite bearings and ARP studs etc.

Incase you didnt figure it out already...I loved the car way too much to just trash the body...it attracted so many people in its really shitty condition so i figured i must keep it. Who knows what the plans for the Challenger are now....but its going to be a goal when i graduate...and its going to be a BEAST.

Expensive clutch that BETTER continue to hold up to my abuse Very Happy

Wanted it to look halfway decent so while all this was happening i tried to clean up the intake and valve cover etc...

Decided to buy an airdam as well...

Engine back in...

Rawr!!!

Just a FYI ...the camera picture dates are NOT correct so if that throws anyone off...

Thats the past and the present is...

Basically the same great running car with a AEM Analog wideband o2 and a few other minor things.

In the future is hopefully a LARGE turbo...still undecided and running a FIP Ms1extra ecu if Phinko can ever get shit done Very Happy

Goal is 12's....we shall see what happens!!

Very nice lady you have. Wink Bet she don't ABUSE her Quest, either. Laughing

Abuse is:
1. Not removing the ABS & NOT keeping it's heat shield. Shocked
(you'll cook that moderator) But keep ALL heat shields on the manifold! Rolling Eyes

2. Electrical connectors....BE PATIENT! Never seen one that did NOT pull-apart.
Some pins on the ECU are gold plated!! If water was trapped inside the vehicle,
that could create some CORROSION.
If A/C water dump is plugged...it floods the carpet!
If windshield was ever replaced...a bad seal is the culprit!

3. "long roads" become shorter!
http://starquest.i-x.net/viewtopic.php?t=916
and:
http://starquest.i-x.net/viewtopic.php?t=1180
*ALWAYS*...disconnect the Neg. battery cable first! Connect it LAST!

4. Restoring a ELECTRONIC car will test your patients! Rolling Eyes

5. Restoring a FUEL SYSTEM from a STORED car.... Rolling Eyes it will create
PURE, HAVOC if you failed to follow this:

The master index: http://starquest.i-x.net/viewforum.php?f=12

"Sooo....my turbo decided to eat some rubber....yeah you know what rubber..."

That is a SILICONE LINER to deal with the HEAT the turbo housing builds. Wink
= keep your heat shields intact.

Psst....I moved-away from the midwest strickly because of CORROSION! Rolling Eyes

Some cars are not worthy to repair/restore.$$$!!!

PQ, can you tell me how long the runners are on that intake? They look really short, looks like the car has the OEM booster in place also.

MORE PICTURES AND UPDATES!!

STORM MEET 2010!

So...since all this I have decided to run a FIP controller. Fuel + spark + TBI Very Happy

All done by scott at elutions design bureau

Phil was in the works building an adapter harness from the FIP computer to the stock harness where the stock ecu unplugs...

Well IT WORKS!

All i had to do is wire about 7 things which were SUPER easy to do...very easy and got it to start in just 1 day. Smile

Here are some pics from camera...more on cell phone later.

Phil your harness adapter looked AMAZING and great quality...but for where i wanted to mount it i sadly had to take off some of the nice looks Sad

And roughly mounted...

Need to clean up the engine bay a little bit...
BEFORE

AFTER lol...

BTW My car sounds WAY better at idle now then it did before...
Part due to me running a little more rich at idle...and idle being a little higher but wow my car sounds great Very Happy

Soon to come...
